SUNDAY UPDATE
Sunday June 28, 2009
I just wanted to take a quick moment to share some updates from the weekend.
1) We’re making good efforts in not only getting the word out to our local and state political representatives. Check out the Politicians Section for how to deal with politicians, a sample letter to send, and to view the many responses Mid-Coast Perspective has received.
2) The Budget Committee has again delayed a vote. The story coming out from the Strickland camp is that Senate republicans are holding up a vote on on slot machines. Mid-Coast Perspective has worked its relationship with several prominent republican reps and senators to learn that the slot machine provision is just one of many problems. Also holding up the vote is the reckless budget slashing that Governor Strickland engaged in with respect to school lunches, libraries, etc. It’s looking increasingly likely that a temporary budget will be passed until a compromise can be hammered out.
3) Our assault on the media has been successful. Take a look at the newspapers section of the site to see the coverage our defense of libraries has received over the past week. That said, we need to ramp up our efforts over the coming week. We need to make sure that there is a letter to the editor of every newspaper in the state published on our behalf, that the reporters continue their high level of coverage, and that we fight for as much earned media as we can.
As library supporters we’ve done a great job of reacting to the challenge before us. Personally, I’ve found that success comes when you are 15 minutes ahead of everyone else, and this is my personal challenge to each of you. Take this opportunity to do something something extraordinary, and challenger yourself each day to use the resources you have to spread the word and bring attention to our cause.
In Solidarity,
~Johnathon
