Thank you for your message concerning funding for our local libraries. I appreciate your contacting my office on this important issue.

Our libraries have and always will provide an important service to our communities throughout the state. I personally have benefited from the use of our counties libraries throughout my life. That is why as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives I have always supported funding for the library systems around the state to help to keep these important facilities open and running.

Governor Strickland has proposed that funding for our libraries be slashed as part of his plan to reduce $2.43 billion from the state budget. As a member of the House, I will stand in opposition to this proposal. Libraries are too important to the citizens of Ohio of all ages, and I will do all that I can to ensure that these important facilities continue to provide important services to our communities.

I urge you to contact Governor Strickland as well as the leaders of the House of Representatives and express your opposition to this proposal. The Governor can be reached by calling 614-466-3555. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Armond Budish, can be reached by calling 614-466-5441 or via email at district08@ohr.state.oh.us. You may also wish to contact the Chairman of the House Finance Committee, Representative Vernon Sykes by calling 614-466-3100 or via email at district44@ohr.state.oh.us.

Thank you again for contacting my office on this important issue. I appreciate your taking the time to contact my office and would invite you to contact me again at any time on this or any other issues.

Best regards,

Ross W. McGregor
